Hey there, I’m Matt.

While I think my work speaks volumes about my abilities, this is a chance to get to know me a little better and see why my fresh take on the world of illustration could be the one to make your product, company or commission stand out from the rest and shine.

First and foremost, I’m friendly, approachable, and really like to get to know the clients I’m working for. That rapport is essential to build a relationship and deliver a product which suits your needs, so all parties are delighted with the outcome and the work can be delivered on time, first time.

When I left school I had no idea what I wanted to be, but these formative years in bar management, and some time as a roofer, taught me more about the world than jumping straight into an art course. Yet my love of art and design slowly grew over time, inspired by my fascination with sci-fi and horror, and I joined Edinburgh College’s Computer Arts and Design course in the hope of designing demons and monsters for the silver screen.

One problem, I wasn’t quite sure how to draw. But with hard graft and dedication, I used my skills and ingenuity over the following years to learn all about the visual design process, from ideation sketching to finished artwork. These skills netted me a place at the prestigious Centre of Excellence in Scotland: The University of Abertay in Dundee.

Before I finished the course, I had already been invited to approach the Oxford Designers and Illustrators Agency, which provided valuable experience of my craft. The job unfortunately ending when the Agency closed its doors a couple of years later. I wasn’t perturbed, however, and soon found work in a local e-commerce business, whilst I honed the skills needed for the next step of my journey. Freelance!

Which is where you find me now.

Freelance provides me with a strong selection of diverse and interesting projects to work on, with both local and international clients' work to stimulate my graphic design abilities. I love new challenges and thrive on a happy client, as I know the work I’ve done is on point and exactly what they want.

If you like what you hear, why not drop me an email and arrange an appointment. I’m always interested to hear from people and help bring their ideas to life.

Cheers,
Matt
